So I just had my daily serving of fruitcake…

Could one be any more ignorant and deluded than this guy, Pastor Mike, who’s calling for a national registry for atheists? In his blog post here he states,
“Registering atheists like Richard Dawkins would at least let people know who – and WHERE – they reside.
“Why do many atheists hold a hatred toward a creator they say doesn’t exist? How can you hate something you claim doesn’t exist?”
I always cop these kind of garbage statements from religious people I meet when they first learn about atheism from an actual atheist, as opposed to what they’re force-fed by their uneducated, hateful and ignorant church leaders. Atheists DON”T hold any hatred toward your creator, which we don’t believe exists. That would be about as uselessly stupid as holding hatred towards hob-goblins or the tooth fairy. However, I’m sure SOME atheists, far from all of them, may hold a certain amount of dislike for those who worship your non-existent creator. Especially if it fosters this sort of unthinking.
“Brothers and Sisters , I have been seriously considering forming a ( Christian ) grassroots type of organization to be named “The Christian National Registry of Atheists” or something similar . I mean , think about it . There are already National Registrys for convicted sex offenders , ex-convicts , terrorist cells , hate groups like the KKK , skinheads , radical Islamists , etc.. “
I don’t know whether to be impressed or offended at the fact that Pastor Mike didn’t include homosexuals in his list alongside us atheists. However, I’m pretty impressed and offended at the fact that he puts atheists up beside convicted sex offenders, terrorist cells and the KKK. As if being an atheist were a crime. Though by the sounds of this extremist Christian’s ramblings, I’m sure he’d see atheism a crime punishable by death if he had his way.
You don’t need to wonder why the number of atheists is growing all across the globe when you have zealots like this moron spreading this kind of propaganda.
Now , many (especially the atheists ) , may ask “Why do this , what’s the purpose ?” Duhhh , Mr. Atheist , for the same purpose many States put the names and photos of convicted sex offenders and other ex-felons on the I-Net – to INFORM the public ! I mean , in the City of Miramar , Florida , where I live , the population is approx. 109,000 . My family and I would sure like to know how many of those 109,000 are ADMITTED atheists ! Perhaps we may actually know some . In which case we could begin to witness to them and warn them of the dangers of atheism . Or perhaps they are radical atheists , whose hearts are as hard as Pharaoh’s , in that case , if they are business owners , we would encourage all our Christian friends , as well as the various churches and their congregations NOT to patronize them as we would only be “feeding” Satan .
Frankly , I don’t see why anyone would oppose this idea – including the atheists themselves ( unless of course , they’re actually ashamed of their atheist religion , and would prefer to stay in the ‘closet.’ ) .
People like Pastor Mike are the ones who need to be put on national registries or watch lists. After all, this blog post is one more example of someone attempting to spread hatred and oppression to one of the most benign groups in the world. And I’m sure in the same breath as he condemns atheists he’d tell you how loving, accepting and non-judgmental Christians are. If believing in your creator gives you this attitude to other groups who have opposing beliefs to you, well, maybe you’ll understand why I am an atheist.
Bahhh bahhh bahhh Pastor Mike, you thoughtless sheep.
Thanks for trolling through the depths to bring us this knuckle-dragging idiocy.
All of us atheists should weat scarlet ‘A’s’ on our chests. I’d buy only from fellow practioners of thought and reason. Plus, then I’d know which girls are worth hitting on.
Keep up the rationality.
At what point, though, do we atheists feel concerned? Not to be alarmist, but his ideas sound a lot like Germany circa 1938.
agreed. i’m sure there are lots of atheists thinking the same thoughts as thousands of jewish people, gays, gypsies, and oh, atheists….just before Hitler decided all of these people were undesirable.
I am a Christian in the UK, and I am appalled by this. I would just like to stand up here and be counted, and let you know that this is no more typical of ordinary mainstream Christianity worldwide than Richard Dawkins’ more extreme pronouncements are typical of mainstream atheism. I honestly can’t imagine what this pastor was thinking of when he wrote this, and I can only hope that his actions are better than his words. (It does happen. I know someone who used to make the most rabidly homophobic general statements, but when actually dealing with someone he knew to be homosexual, he was as kind and reasonable as anyone could wish. Thankfully his words seem to be coming into line with his behaviour now, and not the other way round.)
baroquemongoose – thanks for this. It is always nice to hear a christian denounce the radicalized christians. It’s not heard often enough, and I truly wish that we heard more of it, and louder! That might help marginalize these people, rather than allowing them to be the “public face” of christianity, as they seem to be now, with all of their very public ranting.
I also want to respond to your comment about your homophobic friend – it seems that we hear a lot about how not discriminating against homosexuals is forcing the belief that it’s ok. People are perfectly entitled to believe that it’s a sin and/or an abomination. Your friend is perfectly entitled to his opinion. It is, however, refreshing that he recognizes that his opinion does not entitle him to discriminate against them, or harass them. Hopefully, as he deals with them and finds them to be just normal people, his view will mellow, as it sounds may be happening.
I’ve found that people who harbor hatred of other groups are usually ignorant of them. The more exposure they get to them, the less the hatred. Your homophobic friend could easily hate all gays so long as “the gays” were a faceless entity. Once he actually met people who were gay, he realized that they weren’t some Great Evil and were actually human beings.
I’d be willing to bet that Pastor Mike has never actually met an atheist face-to-face. At least, not someone he knew was one. Chatting with a supermarket clerk who happens to be atheist but doesn’t mention it in the short conversation doesn’t count. Sadly, Internet encounters can sometimes lack the empathy-building attributes of real face-to-face encounters.
Of course, then there are the people who have dug themselves so deep into hatred that nothing could get them out of it.
A++ lunatic. Good laughs at a fool’s expense. Would mock again.
Put us in a registry. Segregate us. Brand us. And lead us to the gas chambers..
What a monster this thing is.
A national registry on who Christians and presumably other religions can harass. Brilliant.
Can anyone tell me how his guy, Pastor Mike, is any different than the late one-eyed leader of the Afghan Taliban Mullah Omar? Or, dare I say, Adolf Hitler?
What is Pastor Mike’s full name and where is his blog?
@baroquemongoose
Since you are a Christian, I wonder why you would be appalled by this? Do you not believe that belief in God is required to avoid eternal hellfire? Don’t you believe we atheists are endangering the souls of your friends and family? Does that not make us WORSE than Islamic terrorists and the KKK? Logically, you SHOULD hold us in contempt.
You may not agree with this pastor, but your belief system enables people like him.
one crazy person’s interpretation does not reflect an entire belief system. implying so is the equivalent of stating that all Muslims practice Islam the same way as Osama Bin Laden. you’re statements about Christianity are just as ignorant as this pastor’s statements about atheists are.
Nah he has a point. You should be all or nothing. Pretty sure your own book tells you the same. If you aren’t 100% in it , then why be religious at all?
I suppose he’d be pleased I’m not an Atheist … ?
I’m a Pagan
♫ neener neener neener – I have more Gods than you dooooo♫
On a more serious note, this is disgusting. What a frightening place this guy must have in his head.
Someone should give him a cookie and a hug, and explain that most people don’t think like him AND he’s got it ALL WRONG.
I am so curious to know how a christian in the UK knows what mainstream atheists think. Richard Dawkins is by no means extreme. Although it must seem that way to theists.
Baroquemongoose — I am curious to know what some of Richard Dawkins’ “more extreme pronouncements” are, the ones that “mainstream atheists” don’t agree with. Dawkins is an evolutionary biologist who speaks in the mildest and most rational manner, and his arguments are simply science. Perhaps you are carrying around two mythologies, one about a dead carpenter, and one about a mild mannered biology professor. However, thank you for being appalled by this proposed ‘registry’. I suspect the idea comes from a more rabid version of the idea that you yourself might be harboring in a gentler form, namely that atheists are, in some fashion ‘extreme’. How can NOT believing is something ever be extreme?
He doesn’t understand why atheists would oppose it? Hm. He doesn’t understand a lot I take it.
Perhaps someone needs to remind Pastor Mike that Pharoah’s heart was hardened by his God.
Perhaps someone needs to remind Pastor Mike that the KKK used Christianity to justify their hate and their actions.

Here’s his fb profile
uh,, is it just me … but what exactly is an “atheist religion?” I’m not sure this guy even understands what atheism IS… What a maroon…
Maybe we should have our own water fountains and ride in the back of the bus also. Maybe our votes could only count as 1/3 of a christian. It seemed to work for the God fearing christians of the south before.
“I don’t know whether to be impressed or offended at the fact that Pastor Mike didn’t include homosexuals in his list alongside us atheists.”
Oh don’t worry, they usually can’t tell the difference between us gay people and child molesters, so he probably thought he covered the gays when he wrote about convicted sex offenders.
Sorry to disagree with you, baroquemongoose, but here in the U.S. not only is this typical of christians, it’s actually a lot less offensive then some other examples of christian bigotry which atheists have to deal with on a daily basis!
I am both offended and amused by his quote in which he states “unless of course , they’re actually ashamed of their atheist religion”. As an atheist, I have NO religion of any sort and do not like being accused of having any religion of any sort! Atheism is not a religion. It’s just the conscious belief in the laws of science and the ability to reason.
I demand that the Government automatically logs every newborn Birth Certificate to the National Atheist Registry.
How can I email this guy? I want to get my address to him!
Wouldn’t he be shocked if he knew there is a group of white witch’s in his town and about 200 non- chirstians We will wear the big read A on our arms when he and his friend wears a blinking halo…So we know who to feel sorry for…
” this is no more typical of ordinary mainstream Christianity worldwide than Richard Dawkins’ more extreme pronouncements are typical of mainstream atheism”
I’ve always been intrigued by the insistence that Dawkins is an extremist because I’ve never encountered much extremism in any of his statements. He’s always seemed very moderate to me. Where did you get this impression from? Have you read any of his books?
@baroquemongoose: you make me sick.
@Pete Darwin: thanks for writing.
There is no such thing as “mainstream” atheism and “extreme” atheism. Either you reject the notion of “god(s)” as a fiction, or you don’t. How one feels about and responds to various religions and religious people will vary, because we are different people with different personalities and backgrounds. But there are no texts or dogmas to be interpreted strictly or loosely. It’s just atheism – NOT being a theist. It isn’t another religion.
No one would mind being on his list? Knowing that they are going to have rabid evangelicals in thier faces ‘witnessing’ to them for the rest of their days?
I think not.
Pastor Mike, I am sure you must know you are already on Janet Napolitano’s domestic terrorist list. You are the one who had better watch out.
I don’t think this is a troll site…
“Why do many atheists hold a hatred toward a creator they say doesn’t exist? How can you hate something you claim doesn’t exist?”
How can a Believer think that atheists think like this? That’s my question to the “good” Pastor Mike.
To an actual atheist, as opposed to the imaginary one that dances around inside this man’s head, hating God is like a fully grown adult hating Santa Claus. It’s ridiculous and a waste of time.
BM, you live in the UK. You have no idea how many people in the US agree with him. Many do. I don’t know how many Dawkins-type atheists you think there are, but I can tell you that there are many intolerant Christians here.
Not only am I an atheist but I’m a stoic skeptic as well.
Can you:
1) produce proof that this pastor exists?
2) produce evidence of when and where these statements by “pastor Mike” were made?
3) prove that you yourself are not some nut posing as an atheist and manufacturing statements in order to stimulate a topic out of thin air, (which seems like something a knuckle dragging, FOX “News” conspiracy monger might attempt).
Protip: Anyone who considers Dawkins an extremist, or labels any of his writing “extreme” has either led an incredibly sheltered life or has never read any of his books.
Or both.
Besides, it’s quite hard to be extremist in disbelief:
“I don’t believe this god exists”
“Well, I don’t believe it MORE”
“Call that MORE? When I were a lad, we REALLY disbelieved”
… ad nauseam
“There are already National Registrys for convicted sex offenders , ex-convicts , terrorist cells , hate groups like the KKK , skinheads , radical Islamists , etc.. “
The difference between those groups and athiests is athiests aren’t currently engaged in illegal activity just by being athiest.
Pastor Mike is a false prophet at best and demonic at worst. He does “NOT represent Christianity the way way Jesus taught it. I think of Isaiah 52: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil…” So many of these RWNJ’s do precisely that. I consider myself a progressive evangelical christian but fully repudiate this kind of behavior.
I was quite surprised he didn’t include Jews in his ramblings. Since the Jews clearly don’t believe in Jesus, I think the Jews should be registered too. I can’t see any downside in this. *wink* *wink* *nod* *nod* *sigh*
What the good pastor has refused to realize is that registering a marginalized few is no different now as it was in Nazi Germany.
This is the original post on Pastor Mike’s Blog.
http://pastorstahl.blogspot.com/2010/09/putting-atheists-on-national-registry.html
@ Pete Darwin….it would be helpful if you posted a link to your findings and research that you write about for the rest of us to verify.
It’s linked in my blog post mate.
Well! This is just another example of total ignorance (gross lack of culture) when looking at this pastor’s impaired judgment; a possible cause of a bipolar or post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder or other twistedness in the motor cortex that could root front temporal dementia – a condition excusable but not tolerated nor advisable to be left untreated. The causes may be bacteria or viruses, most likely owing to extreme religious idiocy transmitted through infected groups by hypnotic indoctrination. Poor deluded chap; he calls atheism a “religion” and demands a National Registry in the same manner child molesters are being registered, forgetting that “he” and his ‘bunch’ of preachers are the ones under legal scrutiny. The Pope himself hides behind his shameless robe while protecting his “shepherds” from the crimes of pederasty and pedophile shameless acts that they commit. ——– These sexually obsessed “pastors” should castrate themselves like Origen to show good faith– in other words they should cut their “astral-nuts” off – and resume to abstinence or else…, self-gratification. They chose to be there. Otherwise, they’ll always have violent anti-social, approaches. They are in fact the sick, the deluded, the religiously infected “mal-functional” Homo sapiens who run and hide from the grab of the law. — God, if ever proven to exist, would have NOTHING to do with their foolhardy man-made immoral and amoral and filthy books that permit these primitive, Stone Age chumps to exercise dictatorship and enjoy tax-exempt money laundry practices. THEY are the ones who SHOULD BE LISTED IN A NATIONAL REGISTRY AS SEX and MORAL “RAPISTS,” not Offenders, for the crimes adduced to civilization. Impertinence has a limit!
I object to the suggestion that those with bipolar or other mental illnesses, especially mood disorders which are not generally characterised by distrubances in percetion or delusion, are being linked to someone with intolerant and bigoted views. Most people I have met with various psychological conditions including depression, bipolar, and borderline personality disorder are far more rational, respectful, tolerant and intelligent than this Pastor appears to be.

-My message I sent to Pastor Mike-
Obviously you are delusional if you think atheism is a religion, or that all atheists are angry, lost or deluded. It is also delusional to pretend that atheist are on the same level as criminals. What exactly is this registry for? So you can harass, slander, and libel them?
Perhaps you should be admitted to a psyche ward for psychosis, and be warned on the dangers of Christian Extremism.
If you are Christian, then tell me what you think about the various scriptures about loving others, not judging thy neighbor, and why you are not following that conduct.
Maybe you would like to explain how your narcissism, egotism, and ethnocentric attitude is conducive to having compassion, empathy, patience, generosity, and kindness like Jesus taught you?
Anyone who blames a devil to negate personal responsibility and praises threats of God’s wrath is a wicked sadist.
If Satan’s greatest concern is that we believe he is God, and are afraid of the truth because it “creates doubt” in him, then it is implausible to strive to be dumb, gullible, unquestioning, and imprudent to obey and follow a jealous, wrathful, angry, murderous, and impatient God who premeditated the murder and torture of most of humanity and uses threats for those who don’t worship him because his ego is so fragile that he needs constant worship.
A loving God would care more about how we serve Him by serving each other, rather than whether we believe in him or not. To say that we are immoral without God is concede that God failed to give us the tools to govern our own behavior, which in fact, Genesis Chapter 3 shows us he did.
interesting comments. I love atheist and I believe in the existence of God.
@ the commentary on the similarity to nazi germany : yeah, it does. and i’m supposed to be working on MOVING to america for a few years until the mrs finishes college and we can move back here. the fact that he’s allowed to say shit like this without being arrested for inciting hatred is rather disturbing.
I admit. It’s one of the downsides of free speech. The good news is so far no-one is being stopped from telling the world that Pastor Mike is an idiot.
An informative illustration of the blind lunacy of these prejudiced individuals, since this is probably an excellent way of increasing the number of ‘active’ atheists. I’m actually an agnostic, on the grounds that the existence or non-existence of a deity powerful enough to create everything we know and suspect to exist is something way beyond our ability to comprehend.
This is a brilliant site and I’m glad I found it.
It has always been about power and money ever since men started making gods in their own image. Pastor Mike reads about atheists and sees emptying pews and dwindling coffers. It’s as simple as that.
ya know i aint religous or an aethiest but even i got to admit this guy is fucking stupid seriously aethist are just people like any other coulda swore this country was founded on the right to believe what the hell you like
What I love is that if we suggested putting Christians on a national list they’d call us fascists.
if these people want to register atheists on a list… fine, put my name on it in bright neon letters and I will laugh at the wackos the whole time… I am Bradley Thomas Horton …
After Pastor Mike lists all of the atheists so that they can get the “Accept Jesus or we’ll make your life a living hell (just before you actually go to Hell)” speech, I’m sure he’ll list other undesirables like gays, Jews, Muslims, Wiccans, Mormans, etc. Then, he can start working on a list of Christians who don’t follow the *EXACT* right form of Christianity. I’m not sure if he’s Protestant, Catholic, Baptist, etc, but I’m sure he’d want everyone to follow his flavor of Christianity instead of their own.
For the record, I’m Jewish. We’ve had our share of “being put on lists for the crime of being Jewish.” It never ends well.
If he’s making a list, even though I’m not an Atheist, I’d be proud to be included on his List Of People He Doesn’t Like.
Where is this Pastor Mike’s church? I have some things as a Christian I would like to pass along to him in way of pointed remonstration. sokit2u@yahoo.com
Not all Christians are like this guy. He’s obviously off his rocker!
You mean I would be able to sign a registry and religious people would avoid me? Where do I sign? Haha
what happened to the registry for child molestation and stuff….oh wait right they banded together to form the catholic church
I grew up a Presbyterian, and I don’t remember the church being focused on forced repatriation with Jesus (i. e. saving errant souls), but many churches do operate on that principle. With these people, you cannot reason. You can only ridicule them loudly and often.
Instead of a registry of atheists. We can just brand ourselves with a red “A” on our ass. That way we can just bend over and anyone that objects to atheism can kiss it!
He said Duhh and I-Net. Srsly.
Did he build a bridge cause there are so many trolls to feed with this trash. How do you take a guy seriously when he says something akin to durr (this is apparently its distant inbred cousin), and he shortens a word to something stupid.
Internet. Net. The web. These are established. The Good Reverend Fail has been double failed.
Thanks so much for the comments in this forum – I am an atheist and I could never understand the acrimony my ideological position attracted – ATB – M
Really we shouldn’t complain about his rantings too much, yes the idea is utterly repulsive, but it offers very little risk to the general atheist populace. Indeed ranting like this will undoubtably make these radicals seem like the morons they are to the vast majority of the religious population in the U.S. (and I should imagine, the world over). As for the refrences to similarities between this and Nazi Germany, it is incomparable. Yes the concept is strickingly similar, but the extreamity of the situation is nowhere near the same. We have the overwhelming majority of the religious united states, who though they may not agree with the atheist perspective, do respect civil rights.
All and all this pastor has provided us with a good laugh, and not much more.
Looks like the “good” pastor has made his blog available only to invited members, so we can’t access it any more. Before that, he limited comments to invited members only. Nice to know he listens to alternative opinions, right?
I wouldn’t worry about the parallels with Nazi Germany, though. This moron is nowhere near the reins of power. The time to worry about it is when someone in government has a similar idea. In the unlikely event of that happening, my advice to all you Americans would be to come and join us in Europe where atheism is much more accepted.
For the love of all things, please don’t take this guy to be a representative of Christians. Christianity – the religion – has nuts like this. No denying it, but it is no more fair to characterize Christians on the account of our worst representatives than any other group.
I am a thinking believer in Christ, and I believe in working with and discussing with people of all belief systems, including atheists – several of whom have made significant impacts to our knowledge base. My only comment there, then, is that it is my hope that atheists – like many of you here on this site – will continue to argue for what can be contributed, and not tear down what others believe. This is the same wish I have for Christians who are failing in that department.
At the end of the day – we’ve all got to do our part.
Shalom, and warrior on.
http://www.mediaite.com/online/florida-pastor-calls-for-an-atheist-registry-media-points-and-laughs/
The “good” pastors church is online based only and receives payment through pay-pal. First off, how can a church exist online solely when “community” and “togetherness” are vital to church growth. I think Pastor Mikes full of it and gives a terrible representation of what being a Christian is. Like others have already stated, Jesus’ teaching was about love for everyone, he broke the norms of the Jewish pharisees and he himself was ostracized for it. If Christians are to called to be “christ-like” how is Pastor Mikes absurd statements even close to being justified in any way. This is gross and appalling, as a Christian, it makes me really think about who I put my trust in even in my own tiny home church.
This makes no sense since presumably he would want registries for anyone who does not believe in his particular version of the death-cult worsheeping, so watch out you Jewish and Moslem Abrahamists and I don’t know how he deals with Hindus, Buddhists, Mor(m)ons and Hubbardists…
Also I had to laugh an yet another Xtian apoplectic who cannot figure out inside his tiny mind that atheism is NOT an religion. The only thing that atheists agree on is that there is no hard evidence that any sentient being is responsible for creating or overseeing human existence. That’s it. Hardly a basis for a relgion, unless you live in Florida that is and want to make money from some gullible dimwits.
However, like Terry Jones’ so-called “church” of 50 or so with their pointless Koran burning activity, should we really be giving this Cretinist any air time at all?
[...] I’ve got to tell you that I’ve found it thoroughly amusing that Pastor Mike has either removed or ultra privatised his Facebook page, as well as closed his blog since the latest resurgence of his national atheist registry post (read my original post on it here). [...]
time to build that panic room I guess, though I thought I would be building it for zombies…oh, wait…
Pray for me. (pun intended) i live in miramar. Though not an atheist, i am agnostic.
Just waiting for the hard proof one way or the other.
As a believer (Christian, but not involved in church) it is hard to see someone profess a belief in a God who characterized himself as love, yet say and do so much that completely contradicts the teachings of Jesus and the Bible.
While this guy is obviously not adhering to the teachings of Christ, he and the other wackos that profess to be Christians are not even close to the majority, to say that is to advertise ignorance. Disparage a who group based on the actions of a few is wrong, and you should not allow yourself to sink to the depths of this wind bag. Please be courteous of others and their beliefs in your commentary, we don’t all deserve to be disparaged for what he says.
BTW I program computers for a living and manage other programmers in an effort that helps push the open web forward each day. You should know that all people who believe in god are not unintelligent or science haters, some of us just see parts of the world that surrounds us with a different lens.
[...] US pastor calls for a national registry for atheists, in the same vain as there’s a national registry for sex offenders. Thinking Atheist has a video reply: [...]
I don’t get why people can’t just get along. Why can’t we all be mature and educated enough to properly converse with each other as we have here. Why can’t everyone not be like this? If anyone should be registered, it should be those who are ignorant and discriminate against others for simply being someone they are not. Why should it matter if someone’s Atheist? Why should it matter if someone’s Christian? Why should it matter if they are Muslim? Or even Jewish? Why does that matter. God or no God, we all live here on earth. Not alone, but together. We are a race of 6,000,000,000 yet we kill each other over and over again with words and actions. We speak of peace with our guns instead of love. Yet, where is the peace? We can all get along, we just need to put our personal opinions aside and respect each other for who we are and how we think. We will all never think the same. We will all never be the same person. We are all the same but we are different. However that shouldn’t mean we can’t all work together to bring forth a greater cause. We could all just accept each other and live the way we want too without any conflict.
Tremendous piece of writing!!
I agree completely!!
7,000,000,000 – And rising – Precisely one excellent reason why we MUST get along – ATB – M
